About Me

My name is Marianne Sawford and  I live in Haywards Heath, West Sussex.  I was a primary school teacher for twelve years before the birth of my daughter in  2010, when I began working from home as a tutor.  I am now an experienced tutor of English and Maths for Key Stages 1, 2 and 3, and GCSE.

My school experience included teaching children across the full primary age range, from ages  4 to 11, in schools in and around London. In one school I held the role of Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator and I am experienced in teaching children with a range of Special Educational Needs, including dyslexia-type difficulties.  I became an Advanced Skills Teacher in 2006, having been independently assessed as Outstanding in All Areas of my teaching, and in this role I worked in several different schools in an advisory capacity, from which I gained experience of an incredibly broad range of teaching styles.  I also have experience of the DfES (now DfE) One-to-One Tuition programme and of teaching children on the ‘Gifted and Talented’ register.

My qualifications include a BSc Hons in Environmental Sciences, an MSc in Education for Sustainability, Primary PGCE,  Qualified Teacher Status, and Advanced Skills Teacher. I have a strong interest in children’s and young adult literature and am planning to study for an MA in the subject soon.  I am a member of the National Education Union and hold Public Liability Insurance specifically for Tutoring.  I hold a Paediatric First Aid Certificate and a full DBS certificate which is updated annually.
